All international students on student visa are required to study in an institution and course that is registered with Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students (CRICOS).

Mostly students from overseas come for education at tertiary level. Tertiary education in Australia is administered by the Australian Qualification Framework (AQF), which aspires to integrate both vocational and higher education into a solitary classification of tertiary education.
